SSDs are pretty fast, noiseless and don't create any heat. They are (in my mind) the future of storage. The downside are the costs. You can get a good Intel Postville X25-M G2 for around 200€. I've got 2 of them and put them into my Mac Pro.
Speeding up the Mac Pro is not just a matter of faster HDs or SSDs, current software uses, thanks to OpenCL, your GPU a lot, but without that you're maybe screwed. Another addition to my Mac Pro is a EVGA GeForce GTX285 which speeds the Mac Pro as well.
By overhauling the network a bit, I've switched to Macs completely. There's a lot local storage, but I'm doing my first steps into cloud based storage using Amazon S3 & the fantastic tool Arq.

In this video I show you the complete installation process of the Intel X25 G2 Postville SSD into my MacBook Alu from Early 2009. Incl. Firmware Update process and benchmarking results.
We went to the Apple Store Frankfurt Opening Event on Saturday, 23th 2010. This video shows the arrival and a few indoor scenes of the new (and currently) largest Apple Store in Germany. I apologize for some very shaking scenes. The camcorder is simply too light and iMovie was not able to reduce this... ;) Was it worth to drive so far for this event? Not really ;) But it was simply fun - and that is what counts in my opinion.
See me unboxing the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Station - with a little surprise. This version is a recut to put it into the new identity. Unfortunately, the sound is not very good (thanks to the Lumix cam). For future use, I will use the Panasonic SD DVD Cam :)
Note: The AirPort Extreme is meanwhile returned to Apple because it smelled very ugly. I'm now using 2 AirPort Express stations who are extending each others range.
See how I unbox the current AirPort Express 802.11n station which will stream our music directly to out Teufel audio device inside the kitchen. This is the replacement for the previous same video with a bit improved audio and intro/outro.
I've recorded this session with our little Lumix cam and sat behind the camera, so - sorry for the poor quality ;) I think it's ok to watch. I couldn't use iShowU because of the setup. The URL of Bombich Software (Carbon Copy Cloner as mentoined in the video is: http://www.bombich.de/). Hope you enjoy that video and will check my Blog on http://www.klein2.de This is a replacement video for the previous uploaded one with inproved audio & video + intro&outro.
Video overview about my recent updates regarding the rack. (Note: The rack is today no longer used so heavily, just the IPCop, Patchpanel and Switches are doing their jobs).
